Bar trends for 2017

Liam O’Donnell director of  Valdivian key trends in bar refurbishment

2016 has demonstrated an array of industrial finishes, copper tones, marble accents, metro tiles and pastel colour pallets and is paving the way for exciting new design trends in 2017.

2017 holds the promise of on-trend counterparts that will offer an exciting and refreshed approach to interiors. Expect to see an update on metal finishes with an array of brass tones, black steel and burnished metal surfaces. The tile trend will also remain at the forefront of design with thin finger tiles, terracotta mattes and elaborate patterns. There will be no holding back with the colour pallet this coming year with a grandeur mix of emerald greens, violets, greys and whites.

The hotel bar should never be overlooked and it is crucial to recognise that the interiors are just as important as the menu and service. The 21st century consumer is paying for an experience and the hotel bar, often a hub of social activity, is the perfect way to capture the essence of the entire hotel and demonstrate a unique allure of style and comfort.

The bar interior should resonate style with a flair of on-season trend and a more classic backdrop. Maintaining a classic ambience will keep the bar looking fresh whilst ensuring it will not look outdated before it’s time as everchanging interior trends move in a sporadic fashion. This can be obtainable for the smallest of budgets and the most limitless of spends.

If your budget is minimal, opt to keep it simple and buy furniture with a timeless aura, such as our Malayan range. The neutral pallet allows you to be flexible and inject colour or texture through scatter cushions and artwork. This enables you to refresh the space on a low budget and keep the bar on-trend year on year.

For those with more cash to splash, our advice would be to consider the bigger picture. It is easy to get carried away with lavish interiors and lose the initial brief whilst forgetting the requirements of the client. It is important to focus on the finished project and provide style, comfort and luxury whilst fulfilling the client’s needs. Plush lounge chairs and decadant sofas, like those found in our Albertine collection, are the perfect addition to a stylish, textured bar with sleek, upholstered bar stools.
