Samantha Carr, who works at Hall Green Stadium in Birmingham beat off stiff competition to be crowed Midlands Receptionist of the Year. Competing against other receptionists from hotels and venues across the region, Samantha won the accolade in the Midlands Association for Restaurants, Caterers, Hotels and Entertainment (MARCHE) Awards for Excellence.
The awards celebrates the very best in hospitality and tourism in the Midlands, boasting nine different categories across the sector and attracting hundreds of nominations each year.
Samantha, who has been with the stadium for nearly five years, took part in a two day assessment along with 35 others. Candidates were assigned group and individual activities on the first day, with just 12 making it through to the final round.
Samantha faced competition from some of the best known hotels, but impressed judges during the second day of assessment with her presentation on handling the influx of visitors for the London Olympics. Samantha secured joint first place with Victoria Evans from Moor Hall Hotel after, for the first time in MARCHE history, the pair drummed up identical marks from the judges.
Samantha explained: “I’m genuinely shocked that I won the award and couldn’t believe it when my name was called on Sunday evening. It was a tough category, but incredibly worthwhile and I’m thrilled my experience and hard work paid off on the day. I love my job and it’s a great honour to be recognised by such an established industry body.”
