The Midland hotel stars in major new Channel 5 doc

Manchester-sOne of Britain’s most historic hotels, The Midland in Manchester, is to feature in a fly-on-the-wall documentary series, which premieres on 1 June on Channel 5 at 9pm.

Inside Manchester’s Midland Hotel is a four-part documentary for Channel 5 produced by Chocolate Media, part of NBCUniversal International Television Production. The series will follow the ups and downs of Manchester’s most iconic hotel through the eyes of its staff.

For 111 years, Manchester’s Midland hotel has been the place to stay. It stands proudly as one of the city’s landmark buildings, positioned in the city centre. A triumph of Edwardian success, The Midland is where Mr Rolls met Mr Royce and decided to start making nice cars.

Welcoming an eclectic mix of patrons, The Midland has always been the hotel to see and be seen in. With guests including ladies that lunch, businessmen, wedding parties and football supporters, the army of staff at the Midland hear and see it all.

Inside Manchester’s Midland Hotel, which will show what life is really like inside one of the country’s most celebrated hotels, is produced for Channel 5 by Chocolate Media. Commissioned by Channel 5’s Emma Westcott, the series will be executive produced by Chocolate Media’s Alan Brown.

Mike Magrane, General Manager at The Midland Hotel, part of the QHotels group, said: “The new series will provide an insight into one of the most historic hotels in the country.

“We’ve opened the doors of our Grade II listed building to give the British public a glimpse into the people – and characters – that make our award-winning restaurants, renowned conference and events facilities and world-class leisure offering so unique.”

Part of the QHotels portfolio, which includes 26 other hotels across the UK, The Midland is based in the heart of Manchester and over the course of its 100-year history has played host to kings, queens, presidents, prime ministers and rock stars. The hotel won the Group Hotel of the Year at The Catey Awards 2014.

Alan Brown, Executive Producer for Chocolate Media says: “It’s extraordinary to get the chance to film inside because what you see as a guest is only a part of the hotel. Behind the walls and doors is a labyrinth of floors and corridors like a grand ocean liner and that’s not to mention the hundreds of staff. We’ve met some great characters that are not just super professional but boast warmth and a sense of humour that reflects the city.”
